About the Flet's System

Provider (ISP) Service

Users of Flet's services must contract with two companies. One is NTT, either NTT East or NTT West, provides the actual broadband connection and the other, the Internet Service Provider (ISP), provides the User ID, password and various services such as mailbox, optional IP phone, etc.

There are many ISP's that can be used with Flet's, but most of them do not have English supprort. OCN, which is a service of NTT Communications, has English support and a Toll-free number you may call when you need assistance.

NTT has a whole family of services using the Flet's brand. These include ADSL, ISDN and Hikari (fiber optic) services. The Hikari services have two main types, Family (a standalone service) and Mansion (a shared type installed in apartment buildings). The brand is used by both NTT East and NTT West (but written in katakana by NTT East).

B Flet's is the original brand name for NTT's fiber optic services and is generally regarded as being synonymous with fiber optic service. However, now NTT now has several fiber optic services. Besides B Flet's, there are Flet's Premium, Flet's Hyper, Flet's Basic, etc..

The distinctions between these products are for the most part minor. Some are NTT East brands and others NTT West. Some refer to slightly different fiber optic systems. Ultimately, however, the distinctions are irrelevant to users because users generally do not have the luxury of choosing between them. In general, they get whichever fiber optic product happens to be available at their location.

Therefore, on most parts of this web site, the distinctions between these different types of Hikari service are ignored because they add more confusion than meaning to the discussion. References to "Flet's" should be understood as referring to the family of services in general. You will be informed which exact type is available at your location.

*NTT is actually run as two companies, East and West. NTT East displays the Flet's brand in katakana and NTT West displays it in roman letters, probably for some silly legal reason to distinguish the brands. This web site uses roman letters to refer to both. There is no intention to confuse the brands. They are both shown in roman letters because this is, after all, an English web site.
